Description
Created by the famous sculptor Augustin-Alexandre Dumont in 1836 and revised by Joseph-Louis Duc this is Le genie De la Liberte or Spirit of Freedom that adorns this bronze column in the heart of the world famous Place De La Bastille. The place where the infamous prison stood at the start of the French Revolution. The statue carries the torch of civilization in one hand and the broken chains of bondage in the other. The column designed by Jean-Antoine Alavoine is 171 feet high and is itself a gorgeous piece of art
